Fall Open House Sun. Oct. 4

Please join us at the Outdoor Lab Fall Open House on Sunday, October 4, 2026 — 10am to 2pm.

Arlington families are invited to meet AOEA board members, learn about APS learning activities at the Lab, and try their hand at canoeing, catch-and-release fishing, hiking our trails and of course, making s’mores around the campfire (weather-permitting).

Please RSVP by Fri. Oct. 2 to reserve your spot and ensure we have an accurate headcount.

AOEA is an entirely volunteer-run organization that owns and maintains the Outdoor Lab — please sign up for a volunteer shift if you’re willing to lend a hand at the Open House! (Teens, get those volunteer hours!) Or join our volunteer mailing list for future opportunities. Thank you!

July 2026 Lab Notes

In this month’s issue of Lab Notes:

  • Summer Camp Fun: Campers and counselors are having a blast during Summer Camp 2026! Everyone is enjoying and exploring the natural wonders of our 313 acres.
  • Alice K., a rising 8th grader at Dorothy Hamm, especially enjoyed the Animal Lab where so got to watch the snakes and turtles – like Munch the giant snapping turtle and Dash the pine snake. When asked what makes camp so great, Alice responded “meet new people, have new experiences and do fun activities and I don’t know what to say other than I’m going next year!”

Celebrate Earth Day at the Outdoor Lab!

The Outdoor Lab Spring Open House is coming up on Saturday, April 20, 10am-2pm. Bring the family and come see what the Outdoor Lab offers! Register Today.

And if anyone is interested in getting more involved with the Arlington Outdoor Education Association (AOEA) to support this APS resource, we have openings for adult and student Board members; Learn More.

Cancelled- Spring Open House

Due to COVID-19 this event has been cancelled. Check back in Fall for the next Open House events.

The Outdoor Lab Open House is scheduled for Saturday May 16th 12-4pm.

Enjoy nature with your family as you hike the trails, try fishing in the pond, paddle a canoe, or visit with the animals in the Lab. We’ll have a cookout with hot dogs and smores or you can bring a picnic to enjoy. It’s fun for all ages and free for Arlington Families and friends.

While at the lab, talk to AOEA board members about the upcoming capital projects or how you could volunteer. We’re looking for additional board members and have lots of great projects on our plate!

Consider carpooling with neighbors or friends to reduce your carbon footprint. Directions can be found here and parking info will be posted closer to the event.

In case of inclement weather, check back here for cancellations or updates.  An Open House Rain Date has been tentatively scheduled for Saturday May 30th 12-4pm.

Spring Open House Cancelled

Due to the rain for the past two weeks we will have to cancel the Spring Open House that was scheduled for Saturday May 14
 
Friends and families, come out to the Lab for our Fall 2016 Community Open House.
In addition to activities on the pond we’ll have fishing, a cookout, hiking and the animal lab.
