Your Schools

Ask your child’s teacher about Outdoor Lab field trips or lessons.  Ask your PTA if they have an Outdoor Lab chairperson and volunteer if not.  See if your school could volunteer for a workday at the Outdoor Lab or coordinate a fundraiser.

APS Budget Advocacy

APS funds the teachers, buses and program expenses for the Outdoor Lab. Each year, APS has a thorough budget process to enlist community feedback about the budget and its priorities. The School Board and APS staff need to hear from parents and ODL supporters that maintaining current year funding is critical to STEAM and outdoor education and the Outdoor Lab.

This investment makes sense and is cost-effective because the nonprofit Arlington Outdoor Education Association (AOEA) provides 225 acres of land and buildings essential for environmental education at the Outdoor Lab. The AOEA was founded 50 years ago by an Arlington science teacher who saw the value in giving students opportunities to learn science “in the field.”
